FAQ’s
What is a POI?
A POI (Point of Interest) or GPS waypoint is a virtual address ‘imprinted’ on a digital mapset by the ‘cross hair’ co-ordinates derived from the Global Positioning System (a constellation of satellites orbiting the earth). For example, a virtual address for a guesthouse at 176 du Toits Pan Road in Kimberly could be S28.74795 E24.77628.
What information does a POI convey?
We list fully attributed POIs in the master mapset that include your company name, address and contact numbers: the owner of a GPS loaded with these maps can access this information from a GPS device.
How can I place my business POI in the master digital mapset?
If you want to place a single POI in the master mapset, fill out our standard booking form and fax/e-mail to us.
If you want to 'bulk' list POIs, contact eWheels. We will email you a data location form to capture and record precise address details for each store/outlet. eWheels use these details to locate each store precisely on the map.
Why is there a fee of R900 excl VAT per annum?
It takes time and effort to communicate with businesses, collect good data and then to accurately geolocate on digital maps. In addition contact details are added and updated every six months with new releases and displayed on live Internet maps e.g. www.mapservice.co.za
Who do I contact if I want to place my business POI in the master mapset?
‘Fixing’ the co-ordinates for your business (or network of stores) is a simple process. Click on 'contact us'; an eWheels representative will contact you. Alternately, phone 012 993 5839.
What does the term ‘auto-navigation’ mean?
‘Auto-navigation’ is the term used to describe the process whereby a GPS device (a personal navigating device) automatically plots a route from one point (a departure point, for example your home) to another point (a destination): for example a restaurant in an unfamiliar suburb of Cape Town.
What is the benefit of placing your business POI in the master mapset?
Listing your business POI in the master mapset ensures that the market – your customers – can auto-navigate to any and every store or franchise address owned by your company in Southern Africa.
What is geo-location marketing?
Geo-location marketing has evolved with the spread and popular use of GPS devices, and is the term we use to describe marketing techniques that cross-reference demographic data with accurate address location information. It is available on various platforms such as GPS maps, mobile maps or mobi maps and Internet maps or web maps.
